HELENA, Mont. – Jesse Laslovich has been appointed the new chief legal counsel for the Commissioner of Securities and Insurance. The announcement was made today by Commissioner Monica Lindeen. Laslovich joined the Office of the Commissioner of Securities and Insurance (CSI) in May 2009 as a staff attorney. The current chief legal counsel, Christina Goe, will be moving to general counsel to devote her time to federal and state-level health insurance reform.

“I have known and respected Jesse as a legislator and attorney,” said Commissioner Lindeen. “He understands and believes in CSI’s mission and vision to protect consumers in Montana.”

Previously Laslovich served as an assistant attorney general under Attorney General Mike McGrath, working in the Office of Consumer Protection. Prior to that, he was an attorney for Datsopoulos, MacDonald and Lind practicing in business law, criminal law, and personal injury.

Laslovich said, “CSI provides excellent legal services to the public and industry. I look forward to being a part of the talented executive team and working with the dedicated staff to assist Montana consumers.”

Laslovich is replacing Christina Goe, who has been with the office since 1999. “Christina’s leadership in our office has been excellent and her knowledge of health insurance is exemplary. As we go through the year, we will be looking to implement federal reform and coming up with strategies at the state-level to reduce the number of uninsured. I found it necessary to give Christina more time in her schedule devoted to study this issue,” Lindeen continued.

Laslovich will be stepping down as the state senator representing senate district 43. He was first elected to the Montana Legislature in 2001 as a representative. He served two sessions and then was elected to the senate in 2004 and re-elected in 2008. While in the Legislature, he received his law degree from the University of Montana in 2006 and received his bachelor’s degree in political science from UM in 2003.
