HELENA, Mont. – Open enrollment for 2019 ACA (Obamacare) health insurance plans begins next Thursday, November 1, and runs through December 15, 2018.
Details and comparisons of the rates and benefits provided through various plans are available at www.MontanaHealthAnswers.com. Montana Health Answers is a website maintained by the insurance commissioner’s office to provide Montanans with information about health insurance. While Montana Health Answers provides a wealth of information about health insurance in Montana, consumers will need to go to the federal exchange at healthcare.gov or work with their insurance agent to actually enroll in 2019 ACA coverage. A list of people certified to help consumers navigate the marketplace is available here.
Rate comparison charts, a dental rate guide, and a cost sharing comparison chart for the 2019 individual market are available HERE.
The same information for 2019 small group plans can be found HERE.
This year, CSI also developed a Health Insurance Shopping Comparison Worksheet to help consumers analyze the costs and benefits of various health insurance plans.
In 2019, rates on some plans are going down, while rates on others are going up. Commissioner Matt Rosendale reminds Montanans to carefully consider all of their health insurance options and shop for the plan that best meets their specific health needs and budget.
Another change in 2019 is the lack of a tax penalty for foregoing health insurance coverage. Beginning January 1, 2019, Montanans will not be forced to pay a penalty if they choose not to buy health insurance coverage, or choose a plan that falls outside of Obamacare.
