After several years of damaging hail storms in Billings, Montana’s Auditor is advising homeowners to read up on their insurance policies and watch out for fraudulent contractors.
At a three-hour hail fraud workshop in Billings, Auditor Matt Rosendale cautioned homeowners against high-pressure sales tactics from traveling roofing contractors, who in three of the past five years have flocked to Billings to repair hail damage.
“The last three to five years, we’ve had tremendous hail events all though the central part of the state. And what we do is continue to see the increase in insurance rates because of it,” Rosendale said. “We can’t change the weather, but what we can do is change the way people are managing the outcomes.”
