Open enrollment for 2020 Affordable Care Act individual market health insurance plans started Friday, with state officials saying people can expect cheaper rates – as much as $4,500 for some plans — in 2020 than 2019 because of a reinsurance program passed by the state Legislature…

State Auditor Matt Rosendale said in a news release that due to the Montana Reinsurance Program that annual premiums will be about $1,000 cheaper on average.

“Premiums will be lower on every single plan that 51,000 Montanans in the individual market depend on,” he said in a news release. “Montanans are sick and tired of insurance getting more and more expensive every year.”…

Rosendale said Montanans in the individual market are expected to save about $51 million total in 2020 compared to 2019, based on assumed enrollment distribution…

Rosendale, whose attempts to create a reinsurance program in 2017 were vetoed by the governor, called the most recent news a “big step in the right direction,” and said there was more work do to do on the problems that make health care too expensive, such as high deductibles and high prescription drug prices, hospital costs.

People should visit www.MontanaHealthAnswers.com to compare the plans, Rosendale said.
