According to FEMA flooding is the nation’s most common and costly natural disaster, racking up millions of dollars in damages each year.
We spoke with Matt Rosendale, the Montana Commissioner of Securities and Insurance, and he stressed the importance of getting insured.
“We’ve got statistics that show that first of all there is a one in four chance that a homeowner will experience a flood over a span of 30 years,” Rosendale said. “The average flood claim in Montana is $13,000.”
Rosendale added that homeowners and renters insurance do not typically cover flood damage. It is not too late to sign up, however you need to sign up at least 30 days before flooding occurs.
