Lindeen’s office announces 2014 Montana insurance rate guides

HELENA, Mont. – What’s a good price for car insurance? I’m buying my first house. What should I expect to pay for my homeowner’s policy? I just turned 65 and realize I need Medicare supplement insurance. What will that cost me?

Montana Insurance Commissioner Monica J. Lindeen announced today the release of the 2014 versions of several of her office’s unbiased, thorough rate guides, which examine the costs of various kinds of insurance sold in Montana.

The publications – available for free both as printed and digital editions – compare the actual rates companies are charging for insurance this year in Montana in an easy-to-read format.

“Our rate guides aren’t trying to sell you anything. We aren’t pushing any policy over another. We work for the people of Montana and produce these guides so Montanans have a source of trustworthy, solid information to make good insurance choices,” Lindeen said. “These guides provide consumers with the data they need to compare insurance rates. Comparison shopping takes time, but can save you money.”

Recently updated publications include the “Montana Auto Insurance Rate Comparison Guide”, “Montana Homeowner Insurance Rate Comparison Guide”, “Montana Long-term Care Insurance Rate Comparison Guide” and the “Consumer Guide to Medicare Supplement Insurance”. Rate comparison guides provide a range of insurance scenarios in particular Montana geographic areas.

The publications can be read online or downloaded from the agency website athttp://www.csi.mt.gov/consumers/consumers_publications.asp. Printed copies can also be ordered directly from the Commissioner’s office at 1-800-332-6148.

While the general information in each publication is reviewed and updated annually, the rate comparison guides give a general idea of the premium rates charged in Montana. Guides are intended to be used as examples only. Contact a local insurance agent for the most current pricing.
