Montana State Auditor James Brown revoked the license of a Kalispell-based bail bondsman Wednesday after he failed to contest allegations that he’d coerced customers into sexual favors and unpaid labor to pay off bonds…
“Callahan’s behavior not only violated Montana law, but it also eroded public trust in our justice system,” Auditor Brown said in a news release. “My agency will investigate and prosecute any bad actor in the insurance industry, especially bail bondsmen, who hold particular power over the Montanans in need of their help. That power comes with a heightened level of professional and moral responsibility.”
Earlier this year, Brown’s office suspended the Montana operating license of a company called Mr. Bail, a Virginia-based business with an office in Billings. The company was under investigation for letting unlicensed people work for it as bond agents.
