A Connecticut man with an extensive history of event prize insurance fraud pleaded guilty on Sept. 15 to wire fraud charges in Connecticut federal court for continued scamming, including against the Montana Chamber Foundation.
Kevin Kolenda, 69, is a provider of event prize insurance through his company, Hole-in-Won LLC. In 2010, the Missoula Country Club hosted a golf tournament, which included a $18,000 prize if a golfer got a hole-in-one. The club bought prize insurance from Kolenda, meaning he would keep the premium if no one hit a hole-in-one but would pay out the cash prize if it was won.
A contestant at the 2010 tournament hit a hole-in-one, but Kolenda never provided the money, according to court documents. He was charged in Missoula with wire fraud and made to pay $10,000 in restitution, according to a release from the Montana State Auditor’s Office. He already had several other cases of regulatory discipline in other states for the same conduct, documents state.
